Poole to represent Saint Vincent in NCAA National Championship race

Freshman Chansler Poole will represent Saint Vincent College in the 2010 NCAA Men's Division III Cross Country Championship, to be held in Waverly, Iowa.

The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced the team and individual qualifiers for the 2010 Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Sunday, the day after NCAA Regionals.  Saint Vincent competed as a team in their regional, which was held at Coopers Lake near Slippery Rock, PA.

Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship.  The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 16 teams.  Sixteen additional teams were selected at-large.

Fifty-six individuals, the first seven athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in each championship.   Poole finished 30th overall in the Regional event on Saturday, but was in the top 7 among runners that were not already qualified as part of a team.  In doing so, he set a new SVC freshman record, covering the 8K distance in 26:03.

Poole is from Harrison City, PA, and a graduate of Penn-Trafford HS.

Wartburg College will host the championships, November 20, at Max Championship Cross Country Course in Waverly, Iowa.  The men's race will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern time followed by the women's race at noon Eastern time.
