CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (Nov. 9) - The Saint Vincent volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to earn a 3-2 victory (25-21, 15-25, 17-25, 25-13, 15-13) over DeSales in the quarterfinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Tournament.
After winning the first game, 25-21, the Bearcats dropped the next two games before rallying for a dominating 25-13 win in the fourth game. SVC closed out the match with a 15-13 victory in the decisive fifth game to advance to the semifinals.
Senior outside hitter
Taylor Guido paced the SVC attack with 17 kills while classmate
Natalie Hozak added 15 kills in the win. Sophomore
Kayla Stadelman registered 14 kills on the evening. Guido led the team with two service aces while Hozak and junior setter
Devin McGrath added one service ace apiece. McGrath directed the offense for 46 assists as SVC advanced.
Defensively, sophomore middle hitter
Brittany Hauser, the Presidents' Athletic Conference leader in blocks, totaled eight blocks against DeSales. Stadelman and sophomore middle hitter
Emily Rosati each added five blocks. Sophomore libero
Megan Lucas finished with a team-high 26 digs while McGrath and Hozak added 22 and 14, respectively.
With the win, SVC advances to 22-11 on the season and to the ECAC South Division III Semifinals for a consecutive season. The Bearcats will resume action on Saturday, Nov. 12, when it travels to PAC foe Bethany for the semifinals and finals. In its first action of the day at 2 p.m., SVC will play fourth-seeded Moravian, a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-20) winner over fifth-seeded Neumann.
