Saint Vincent adds NCAA Women's Bowling as varsity sport

Saint Vincent College is adding NCAA Women's Bowling as its 23rd varsity sport.

The team plans to begin competition in NCAA and US Bowling Congress events beginning this November.

"Women's bowling is growing very quickly at the NCAA level," said Rev. Myron Kirsch, O.S.B., Saint Vincent Athletic Director.  "It has also become a very popular sport at the high school level, especially in Western Pennsylvania.  The timing is right for us to bring the sport back to Saint Vincent."

Saint Vincent has a long history with the sport of bowling, including a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's National Championship in 1978.  The team was disbanded in the early 1980s.

This will be the college's first-ever women's bowling team.

A head coach and home lanes will be announced later in February.
