Saint Vincent duo honored for academics

Two Saint Vincent College women's basketball players have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District team in the small college division.

Junior forward Brittany Sedlock was named First Team, while senior guard Maria Baroffio was a Third Team selection for District II, which encompasses Division II, III, and NAIA colleges in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must reach his/her junior season of competition, hold a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30, and make significant contributions athletically.  Voting is conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

With her First Team selection, Sedlock will now be on the Capital One Academic All-American ballot, the first student-athlete from Saint Vincent to ever do so.

Sedlock, a native of Northern Cambria, PA and graduate of Northern Cambria High School, has evolved into one of the top players in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.  Through the first 20 games of the year, she leads the PAC in rebounding, averaging 9.2 per game, while she's second in scoring (16.4 pts/gm) and third in steals (57).  She has recorded seven double-doubles on the season, and has scored at least 10 points and grabbed at least six rebounds in all 20 games.

A Mathematics major, Sedlock has been named to the Deans List in each of her five semesters at Saint Vincent.

Baroffio, a native of Butler, PA and graduate of Butler High School, is second on the team, and fourth in the PAC, in scoring, averaging 13.7 points, as she's topped 15 points in nine different games, including a trio of 20-plus point performances.  She also places sixth in the PAC in steals, with 49, while her 33 three-point field goals are good for fifth in the conference.  Baroffio is the Bearcats' active career scoring leader, as she became the 22nd player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points, doing so in a victory over Chatham on Dec. 7th.  Through Feb. 2nd, she has tallied 1,156 points for her career, good for 19th all-time in school history.

Baroffio is majoring in Communication, with an emphasis in Advertising and Public Relations, and is a two-time selection to the PAC Academic Honor Roll.

A total of 18 student-athletes from 14 colleges, with five on the first team, were named All-District from District II.  Saint Vincent is one of just two colleges with two players on the list, joining fellow PAC member Waynesburg University.

Voting for the national ballot will begin on Feb. 8th, with results being released late next week.
