Women's basketball receives national honor

The Saint Vincent College women's basketball team has been placed on the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association Academic Top 25 for its performance in the classroom during the 2010-11 school year.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes NCAA Division I, II, and II, NAIA; and junior college teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade-point averages inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season.  The Bearcats, with a cumulative team GPA of 3.433, placed 24th in the NCAA Division-III classification, which includes over 300 colleges from across the country.

This marks the second time in program history the SVC women's basketball has received the honor, as the 2001-02 squad ranked 15th in the NAIA classification.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 honor is the second time in three weeks that the Bearcats were honored for their academics, as five players (seniors Maria Baroffio and Kathy Bianco, junior Brittany Sedlock, sophomore Megan DePrimio, and freshman Ariel Rocco) were placed on the Presidents' Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes who achieve a grade-point average of 3.6 or above during their season of play.  In addition, Sedlock was also a First Team All-District selection in the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America program, and Baroffio a Third Team pick.

The Bearcats, who finished 24-5 in 2010-11, are one of five teams in the 2011 WBCA Academic Top 25 that participated in the NCAA Division-III National Tournament, and are one of two teams from the Presidents' Athletic Conference honored, joining Thomas More College.
