Saint Vincent College

Coach Campi

Enrico Campi

Enrico Campi has been the face of SVC men's tennis since the early '80s. The former number one man on the tennis squad graduated in 1984 and was named head coach of the Bearcats soon after.

A native of Charleroi, PA in nearby Washington County, Enrico has made a career out of tennis. In addition to coaching the Bearcat men, he also coached the women between 1985 and 1992.

A teaching pro as well as owner and operator of the Greensburg Racquet Club, where his Bearcat tennis team calls home, he has helped produce a number of local, sectional, and nationally ranked players, a number of whom have gone on to receive scholarships to NCAA Division I and II programs. He is also the president of the US Professional Tennis Association's Allegheny Mountain District as well as a member of the US Tennis Association Middle-States Sanction and Scheduling Committee and a USTA National Referee.

He has also won the 1988 USTA National Coaches Award and the 1997 Professional of the Year Award, given by the USPTA. His goal as a coach is to see each player improve from year to year. "My favorite part of coaching is helping the players and seeing so many of them improve from when they entered as a freshman to when they graduate."

He has also loved the travel that goes hand-in-hand with coaching. "I try to stress to my players that wherever you go in life, take the opportunity to take in what's around you. We've been to baseball games in Cleveland and Cincinnati, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Niagara Falls, and Florida. I want the players to see that there's more to life than just tennis, and I want them to do well in school and in their personal lives in addition to on the court."

He has also gotten great pleasure out of meeting people from all around the world while traveling with his teams. "You meet people from everywhere. We've played against guys from Brazil, Ecuador, Germany, and Africa, among others."

Another one of his favorite experiences dates back to 1988, when Bearcat Shawn Vamislicky won the conference singles title, a rare feat, to say the least.

Overall, he has enjoyed his experiences at Saint Vincent. "It's like a time warp," he says of working at his alma mater. "Being the longest tenured tennis coach in school's history, I've seen so much. I love the players, the travel, seeing all of the improvements made around campus and the new buildings, and just the overall environment."
