Westminster snaps SVC winning streak

BOX SCORE

The Saint Vincent women's soccer team saw its three-game winning streak snapped, as the Westminster Titans defeated SVC 1-0 on the Saint Vincent Turf.

The Lady Bearcats controlled play in the early going, as SVC took five of the game's first seven shots in the opening 20 minutes, while also taking a trio of corner kicks in the span.

Momentum then shifted the way of the Titans, as Westminster controlled the ball for several moments beginning in the game's 23rd moment.  The team's fifth shot in that span turned out to be the most important one, as Danielle Struble scored off of a cross from Tyler Dever right on the doorstop at the 30:50 mark.

Westminster looked to continue to press offensively, out-shooting SVC 6-1 over the final 12 minutes of the first half, but the Lady Bearcat defense, led by goalie Kirstie Mills, held, and the game went into the intermission with Westminster holding the one-goal lead.

The Titans kept the momentum throughout much of the second half, taking 11 of the first 13 shots, but again the Lady Bearcat defense remained solid, with Mills making six saves in the second frame.  Trailing by one, Saint Vincent looked to mount one final offensive charge, taking three corner kicks and five shots in the game's final five minutes, but Westminster goalie Lindsay Moyer turned them all aside to preserve the Westminster victory.

For the game, Westminster owned a 27-12 advantage in shots, while both teams took seven corner kicks.  Mills turned in 11 saves in the hard-luck loss, while Moyer finished with five stops to earn the shutout.

The defeat drops SVC's record to 4-7-3 overall and 3-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, while Westminster improves to 7-7 and 3-2.

Saint Vincent will now take to the road, traveling to Washington, PA to face Washington & Jefferson College in PAC action on Tuesday night beginning at 7pm.
