Lady Bearcats tie B-W

The Lady Bearcats and Baldwin-Wallace College battled to a 1-1 tie on the damp Saint Vincent Turf.

The game was called after the first overtime session due to darkness.

Catherine Czapski got the Lady Bearcats off to a fine start, scoring her second goal of the season just 7:46 into play on a rebound in front of the net following a free kick.

From there, the Saint Vincent defense withstood constant pressure from Baldwin-Wallace throughout the remainder of the first half, as the Yellow Jackets took a 12-5 advantage in shots into the intermission, with SVC goalie Kirstie Mills making six saves over the game's first 45 minutes.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets continued to press on offense, taking three corners and five shots in the first 15 minutes, with Bucky Gammiere scoring the equalizer in the 61st minute off of a cross from Rachel Gokey.

Both teams saw scoring chances over the later portion of the second half, but neither was able to find the net, as Mills made three saves over the final 10 minutes and B-W keeper Caitlin Sutter one, on a shot from right in front by Tenesha Corrales, to keep the game knotted at one after 90 minutes of play.

Mills and the SVC defense continued to stand up to the Baldwin-Wallace attack in the first overtime, as the Yellow Jackets posted all five shots of the extra session, with Mills making two saves, and the game remained tied at 1-1 after 100 minutes.

Following the first overtime, due to the dark, overcast conditions, the officials conferred and decided to call the game due to insufficient lighting.

Mills, who entered the week leading the Presidents' Athletic Conference in saves, made 15 stops for the Lady Bearcats, who were out-shot 29-6 for the game.

The Lady Bearcats (1-5-3) will return to action on Friday afternoon, opening up the Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule with a 3pm game against Bethany College on the SVC turf.
