LATROBE (Sept. 13) – Four different players scored goals as the Saint Vincent women's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 victory over Mt. Aloysius on Tuesday afternoon on the SVC turf.
Senior
Carly Duffy opened the scoring with an unassisted goal where she beat her defender one-on-one just over seven minutes in to the game to give the Bearcats the lead, 1-0. At the 31:55-mark, Duffy would record her second goal of the game and third of the season (unassisted).
Just under three minutes later, sophomore
Elyse Togliatti took a pass from classmate
Jennifer Kisner and scored her first goal of the game (second of the season) on a ball that ricocheted off the post and past Mount Aloysius goalkeeper Whitney Johnson.
At the 40:50-mark, freshman
Elly Colvin tallied her first-career goal when she placed the ball over Johnson's outstretched arms and just under the crossbar off a pass from Togliatti, who would give the Bearcats a 5-0 lead just two minutes later with her third score of the season.
After taking a 5-0 lead in to halftime, the SVC scored its final goal of the match just 2:30 into the second half after sophomore
Lindsey Daniels found junior
Catherine Czapski who converted the breakaway opportunity for her first goal of the season.
On the game, the Bearcats held a dominating edge on shot, 27-2. Duffy led all players with six shots with sophomore
Tenesha Corrales and Czapski adding five and four, respectively. SVC also held a large, 11-0, edge on corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper
Kirstie Mills earned the win after playing the first 45 minutes before yielding way to sophomore
Cassie Overly who played the final half, with neither keeper forced to make a save.
With the win, the Bearcats improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Mounties fall to 0-4.
SVC returns to action on Friday, Sept. 16 when it travels to Pittsburgh, Pa., to take on La Roche for a 3 p.m. game.
