LATROBE (Oct. 13) - Junior
Monika Derboghossian scored in the 83rd minute to break a scoreless tie and lead the Saint Vincent women's soccer team to a Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Bethany, 1-0, on the SVC Turf.
With the win, the Bearcats snap a three-game conference losing streak and improve to 2-3 in the league and 9-4 overall, surpassing last season's win total of eight games. The Bison fall to 2-10-1 on the year and 1-4 in the PAC.
Derboghossian found the back of the net at the 82:52-mark to give SVC the lead, and eventually, the win. With the keeper on the right side, she hit the top left corner from 20 yards out to notch her third goal of the year, which was unassisted.
The two teams were scoreless through the first half, with the Bearcats holding a 9-4 advantage on shots through 45 minutes. SVC then posted 14 shots compared to just five for Bethany in the second half to finish the game with a 23-9 lead in shots.
Derboghossian led the team with six shots (four on goal) while junior
Rebecca Sandor posted five shots (two on goal) and sophomore
Abbey Neish recorded four shots (three on goal). Junior

Elly Colvin each registered a pair of shots and four other Bearcats added one shot each.
Saint Vincent held a large advantage in corner kicks, 8-2.

Cassie Overly earned the win and her fifth shutout of the season, making two saves in 90 minutes.
SVC will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 16 with a 4 p.m. match at PAC-leader and nationally-ranked Thomas More.
