Game Notes vs. Thiel (.pdf)
BYE, BYE, BYE: SVC was idle last week which marked the fourth latest that the Bearcats have had a bye week in the modern era. The latest the bye week has occurred was during Week 10 in both 2008 and 2009. SVC is 2-3 coming off a bye week with the two wins coming in the last two seasons.
STREAKS ALIVE: SVC enters play this week with a trio of streaks on the line. In addition to winning coming off of a bye in the last two seasons, SVC also has active win streaks against Thiel (2010, 17-3; 2011, 36-14) and on Homecoming (2010 vs. Thiel; 2011 vs. W&J).
SLOW STARTERS: The Bearcats enter this week having lost four-straight games to start the season for the first time since 2009, the last time SVC went 0-10.
HOME COOKIN': Saturday's game against Thiel will be the fourth home game (of six) already this season for the Bearcats. It also marks the earliest SVC had played its fourth home game since 2007 when the fourth home contest came on Oct. 13, a 44-17 defeat to Thomas More.
ONE MILESTONE DOWN, ONE TO GO: After already claiming the modern-day career receptions record, senior WR
Ricky Douglas has his sights set on the modern-day receiving yards record. He enters play this week just 115 yards away from breaking the record set by former WR Sheldon Loughner.
23 AND COUNTING: Douglas extended his reception streak to 23 game two weeks ago at Westminster. The last time he did not record a catch in a game he played in was the 2010 season-opener against Bridgewater (Va.). The modern-day record is 26 games and is also held by Loughner.
ONE STREAK SNAPPED: Senior OL
James Haggerty was held without a catch against Westminster after recording the first catch by an offensive lineman in modern program history against Waynesburg following a deflection. He finished 25 games short of catching Loughner.
FIRST ONE'S THE TOUGHEST: Senior RB
Rayford Wyder scored his first career touchdown on a three-yard carry against Westminster.
ROOKIE RECORD: Freshman LB Renny Larue-Holloman leads the team with 30 tackles and 4.0 TFL through four games. The last time a freshman led the Bearcats in stops for a season was 2009 when former LB
David Ribero recorded 86 tackles and 13.5 TFL.
FIVE GUYS: The Bearcats have started the same five offensive linemen in each of the first four games, the only position group that can claim it has used the same starters in each game thus far. Last year four of SVC's five offensive linemen started all 11 games.
STARTER STREAKS: Senior TE
Cody Strelick is the team's active leader with 25-consecutive starts dating back to the beginning of the 2010 season. The next closest are juniors OL
Darius McGhee and DL
Alex Zupanovich with 15-straight starts. Sophomore CB
Darius Brown has made 11-straight starts and started all but one game in his career.
THIEL'S TOUGH TIMES: Thiel recently snapped a 24-game losing streak with a 21-14 overtime win at home against Geneva. Prior to the win on Sept. 15, the Tomcats last victory came against Saint Vincent on Oct. 31, 2009, a game Thiel won, 38-14. The last time the Tomcats won a game on the road was also against SVC, coming on Nov. 1, 2008 in Latrobe by a 36-22 margin.
