SVC hands Juniata first loss in 2-1 victory

LATROBE (Sept. 22) - The Saint Vincent women's soccer team scored two goals in a 5:23 span in the first half to open up a 2-0 lead before handing Juniata its first loss of the season in non-conference women's soccer action on the SVC Turf.

The Bearcats improve to 6-1 on the season and run their winning streak to five games and remain unbeaten against NCAA Division III opponents. Juniata falls to 6-1-1 on the year with its first loss.

Sophomore Abbey Neish posted her team-leading fourth goal at the 27:07-mark on an unassisted goal from six yards out to give SVC the 1-0 lead. Just 5:23 later, junior Monika Derboghossian posted her first goal of the season on a header following a direct kick by sophomore Elly Colvin, 2-0.

Juniata made it a 2-1 game with 6:02 left in regulation when Alicia Snyder scored straight on from 25 yards out after taking a pass from teammate Rose Lucidi.

SVC held the advantage with seven shots to Juniata's five shots in the defensive battle. The Eagles attempted all three corner kicks in the match.

Junior Cassie Overly earned the win in goal, making three saves and allowing just one goal while playing all 90 minutes.

SVC closes out non-conference action on Monday, Sept. 24 with a 5 p.m. contest at Muskingum (Ohio).
