SVC opens PAC play with 1-0 win over Westminster

LATROBE (Sept. 29) - The Saint Vincent women's soccer team opened the 2012 Presidents' Athletic Conference slate with a 1-0 win over Westminster on the SVC Turf.

With the win, the Bearcats run their winning streak to seven-straight matches while improving to 8-1 overall, matching their win total from last season, and 1-0 in league play. Westminster falls to 4-5-2 on the season and 0-1 in the PAC.

Junior Monika Derboghossian scored the game's only goal in the 70th minute when she chipped the ball over the Titans' keeper from the six-yard line. The goal, which was Derboghossian's second of the season, was assisted by sophomore Abbey Neish and junior Jennifer Kisner.

For the game, SVC doubled Westminster's shot total, 16-8, behind a balance attack of eight shots in each half. Derboghossian led all players with seven shots (five on goal). Freshman Meghan Smith recorded three shots while junior Rebecca Sandor and sophomore Ally Panzella each tallied a pair of shots.

Junior Cassie Overly earned the win to improve to 8-1 on the season while making five saves in 90 minutes.

SVC returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 3, travelling to Beaver Falls, Pa., for a 5 p.m. meeting with Geneva in PAC action.
