The Bethany Bison won the annual Green Game, defeating Saint Vincent by a score of 56-35, as the Bearcats finished their second consecutive winless season.
Matt Grimard passed for 416 yards and six touchdowns, part of a 28-for-42 performance to lead the visiting Bison, while Eric Blinn caught 12 passes for 267 yards.
Andy Borgen countered for SVC with 275 yards of passing (14-31), while
Jaleel Morris ran for a career high 105 yards.
The Bison scored on the game's opening possession, going 85 yards in nine plays, with Jaylen Jennings catching an 11 yard pass from Grimard for the score, making it 7-0. Nine minutes later, Blinn caught his first TD pass of the day, from six yards out, to make it 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Early in the second, Grimard and Blinn connected on a 66-yard scoring strike to make the score 20-0, then increased the lead to 22 after a Bearcat punt attempt resulted in a safety when the snap went over the head of
Morgan Porter.
Later in the quarter, down 29-0, the SVC offense scored on a 5-yard run by Borgen, but Bethany countered with just 9 seconds left in the half, taking a 35-6 lead into the locker room.
The Bearcat offense came out for the second half in fine form, driving 60 yards in 8 plays, capped by a
Ryan Crawford 2-yard run. After Borgen ran for the 2-point conversion, the score was 35-14.
However, on the next play from scrimmage, Grimard and Blinn connected once again, this time on a 45-yard touchdown pass, making it 42-14.
Borgen again guided the offense downfield quickly, starting with a 57-yard pass to
Dan Wirkowski. The drive ended with a 16 yard scoring pass to
Rob O'Hearn.
After the defense forced a three-and-out, Wirkowski fielded a punt at his own 20 and ran 80 yards for a touchdown, making the score 42-28 with 8:51 left in the third quarter.
Once again, Grimard and Blinn brought the momentum back to the Bison side, with a 34-yard pass to move the ball into the red zone. Blinn then caught a 5-yard touchdown pass to make the score 49-28.
After the visitors increased the lead to 56-28, SVC added a late touchdown on a pass from Borgen to
Dustin Lowman.
Brandon Hill led all rushers in the game, gaining 120 yards on 15 carries for BethanyÂ
For the Bearcats,
Matt Duffey had three catches for 87 yards, while Lowman added three receptions for 46. Wirkowski had two catches for 90 yards to go along with his 80-yard punt return.
Dwayne Brown returned six kickoffs for 134 yards.
Defensively,
Matt McCarthy tallied 8 tackles on the afternoon, while
Matt Jenkins had 7 and Wirkowski added six.Â
Andrew Geisler recorded a sack.
Saint Vincent ends the season with a record of 0-10, 0-8 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Bethany improves to 4-6 on the year, 4-4 in the PAC.
