BOX SCORE
A header in front of the net in the closing seconds got past the goalkeeper, but a Pitt-Bradford defender made the stop, and the Saint Vincent women's soccer team lost on the road by a score of 1-0.
Both teams battled to a scoreless tie through the first 81 minutes of the non-conference game, but in the 82nd minute, UPB's Melissa Smith placed a shot into the corner past SVC keeper Cassie Overly for the 1-0 lead.Â
The goal came on one of 13 shots by UPB. Saint Vincent had 8 shots on the afternoon. One of those shots nearly sent the game to overtime.
In the closing seconds, SVC's Meghan Smith nearly tied the game, but her header was stopped by a Bradford defender, who was in position backing up her goalkeeper. Smith's shot eluded one but not both players, and the hosts held on for the win.
Saint Vincent (1-2) will travel to Steubenville, OH on Sunday to face Franciscan University at 2PM.
