Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

SVC falls 2-1 to PAC unbeaten Grove City

BOX SCORE

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 28) - Facing one of the top teams in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, the Saint Vincent women's soccer team battled valiantly before falling short, 2-1, to conference unbeaten Grove City at the SVC Turf.

The visiting Wolverines scored a pair of goals within the first 10 minutes of the contest to stake themselves to an early lead. Lindsay Hutton scored off an assist from Molly Weitzel in the 6th minute of action before Katherine Kouzelos added another GCC tally in the 9th minute.

Despite the early deficit, the Bearcats battled back in the second half. Junior midfielder Emily Johns tallied her first goal of the season, taking a pass from freshman Maggie Nelson and burying in the back of the net. Johns' tally came in the 46th minute and cut the Bearcats deficit to 2-1. The goal was the first that Grove City has allowed in conference play all season. Unfortunately for Saint Vincent, they could get no closer. The teams went scoreless for the next 44 plus minutes and Grove City held on for the victory.

Grove City held advantages in shots (11-to-6) and corner kicks (8-to-3). Both teams recorded four shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Lyden started and played all 90 minutes in net, making two saves while surrendering the two goals.

Saint Vincent dropped to 2-5-1 in PAC action and 2-14-1 overall. With the victory, Grove City improved to 8-0-0 in the PAC and 9-8-1 overall. The Wolverines will play for the PAC regular season title Saturday at Thomas More.

SVC closes out the season by traveling to Waynesburg on Friday, Oct. 31. Start time is slated for 6 p.m.
