LATROBE, Pa. (Dec. 6) - The Saint Vincent swimming teams split a home Presidents' Athletic Conference meet against Washington and Jefferson College. The men's team earned a 161-111 victory over the Presidents, while the Bearcat women dropped a close decision, falling 143-141.
The victory helped the men's team improve to 2-0 in the PAC and 4-2 overall. The women's team dropped to 0-2 in the conference and 1-5 overall.
Senior
Zach Ligus led the way for the Bearcat men, breaking the pool record in the 100 Free, with a time of 47.40. Junior
Allen Sant and
Matt Tashima finished in second and third place respectively to help SVC take the top three spots in the event.
The Bearcat relay team of Ligus, Sant,
Kyle Garase and
Alex Bolen broke the pool record in the Men's 400 Free Relay, coming in with a time of 3:17.43.
SVC took the top two spots in the 200 Medley Relay.
Adam Gordish,
Kameron Faychak,
Xander Emili and Garase were the top team, finishing in 1:40.37.
Adam Tran,
Matt Kenney, Tashima and Sant came in second place, with a time of 1:43.63.
Bolen took the top spot in the Men's 1000 Freestyle, with a time of 10:08.57. Bolen came in nearly 30 seconds ahead of the next competitor in the event.
Sean Doyle finished in third place for SVC. Ligus took the top spot in the 200 Free with a time of 1:47.55. Tran finished in second place in the 100 Backstroke, touching the wall in 58.56. SVC finished in the top three spots in the 100 Breaststroke. Emili took first while Kenney and Faychak finished second and third, respectively. Garase and Gordish took first and second in the Men's 200 Butterfly.
Ligus and Bolen took the top two spots in the 50 Free. Ligus at 21.56 and Bolen at 22.65. Gordish and Tran finished in second and third place in the 200 Backstroke event. Emili took first in the 200 Breaststroke, with Faychak and Kenney finishing in the next two spots. Bolen earned first place in the 500 Free with a time of 5:06.75. Garase and Gordish put together a strong performance, to finish 1-2 in the Men's 100 Butterfly.
Freshman
Marla Turk helped lead the Bearcat women, breaking the pool record and claiming first place in the 200 IM, with a time of 2:17.36. The Bearcats took the top spot in the Women's 200 Medley Relay.

Sarah Robbins and
Alexis Ferraco came in with a time of 1:57.47. Turk continued her strong day with a first place finish in the 1000 Free, with a time of 11:16.53. Senior
Molly McCloskey took third place in the event. Smrekar came in first place in the 100 Backstroke, with a time of 1:03.73.
McCloskey added a top finish in the 200 Butterfly, with a time of 2:20.27. Robbins took third with a time of 2:23.70, narrowly missing out on second place.
Marissa Frollo took first place in the 50 Free, with a time of 25.21.
Paige Pecora and Frollo finished 2-3 in the 100 Freestyle. Smrekar took the top spot in the 200 Backstroke, with a time of 2:18.43. Turk took first in the 500 Free, touching the wall at 5:29.03. Finally, Robbins and Frollo took the top two spots in the Women's 100 Butterfly.
Both teams are back in action at Bethany on Saturday, Jan., 17. Chatham will also take part on the women's side. Start time is at 1 p.m.
