LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 28) - Second half goals by
Maggie Nelson and
Leah Scott led the Saint Vincent women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Chatham University in a rainy final home game for the Bearcats.
The victory improves the Bearcats to 8-9 overall and 4-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. SVC finished the 2015 home schedule with a 6-1 record. Chatham falls to 8-7 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
Both teams battled through rain and wind throughout the contest, as the two teams combined for 11 shots in a scoreless first half.
Nelson finally broke the tie, with an unassisted score in the 60th minute of play. The goal was the team-leading 10th of the season for Nelson.
The Bearcats held off several late scoring chances from the Cougars and Scott added an insurance goal off a pass from freshman
Jessica Rudolph in the 89th minute.
Junior goalkeeper
Meghan Lyden recorded seven saves and a shutout in her first start of the season.
Saint Vincent wraps up the regular season with a road contest at Geneva College on Saturday, Oct. 31. Start time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
