SVC and UPG tie 2-2 in Westmoreland Cup matchup

GREENSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 16) - A total of 110 minutes of soccer was not enough to decide a Westmoreland County Cup winner in 2015. The Saint Vincent and Pitt-Greensburg men's soccer teams battled to a 2-2 tie at Ridilla Field in Greensburg.

Pitt-Greensburg got off to a fast start, as Sean Baxendell scored two goals over the first 16 plus minutes to stake the host Bobcats to a 2-0 lead.

However, Saint Vincent would battle back, as senior Christian Trueax headed the ball into the back of the net off a throw in pass from junior Kevin Proctor in the 20th minute. The goal helped the Bearcats cut the Bobcats lead in half at 2-1 and give SVC so much needed momentum at the end of the half.

The Bearcats would draw even when Proctor scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute of play. The goal was Proctor's PAC leading sixth score of the season.

Neither team could score over the next 33 minutes of action or in either overtime session as the team's settled for a tie.

Saint Vincent held slight advantages in shots (21-17) and shots on goal (9-7). UPG had 8 corner kicks compared to the 7 for the Bearcats.

Proctor and Trueax dominated the SVC offensive attack, combining for 13 shots in the contest.

Senior goalkeeper Jon White tallied five saves in the game, including one from point blank range with 12 seconds left in the second overtime to preserve the tie.

Saint Vincent now holds an 0-6-1 record on the season and returns to action when they host Hilbert College (NY) on Saturday, Sept. 19. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
