Saint Vincent got on the board first, when
Cameron Mack blocked a punt and
Damon Black scooped it up and ran 28 yards to the end zone. The
Steven Scherer kick made it 7-0 with just over 9 minutes left in the first quarter.
Grove City tied it less than three minutes later on a 20-yard touchdown pass, but SVC's
Evan Shimensky answered with a 21-yard scoring pass to
DJ Oceant-Kelly with 2:17 left in the quarter, making it 14-7.
The next Wolverine drive stalled, forcing another punt attempt. The snap from center hit one of the Grove City players and bounced into the hands of
Dwayne Brown, who scampered 35 yards for a Bearcat touchdown. The Scherer PAT made it a 21-7 lead with 1:15 left in the first quarter.
Midway through the second quarter, a Grove City interception led to another Wolverine touchdown that made the score 21-14, but the Bearcat defense then got into the scoring act.
Devin Anderson intercepted a pass at the home 35 and made it into the end zone, putting SVC in front 28-14 at the half.
Tyler Donahue took over at quarterback for the Bearcats in the second half, and found Black for a pair of passes on the first drive of the third quarter. The first covered 24 yards, and the second was good for an 11-yard touchdown pass. A fumbled snap on the PAT attempt left the score at 34-14.
After the SVC defense stopped Grove City on a 4th-and-1 play, Donahue wasted no time in adding points to the board, taking off on a 61-yard scoring run on the first play of the drive, putting the Bearcats in front 41-14.
After Grove City scored to make it 41-21 early in the fourth, the Bearcats
Brett Capobianco came up with his second interception of the game. The Bearcats added their final touchdown on a 4th-and-3 pass from Donahue to
Ariel Martinez in the end zone, covering 26 yards. The hosts tallied a late touchdown to compete the scoring on the day.
On the afternoon, Grove City outgained SVC by a 449-406 margin, running 90 offensive plays. Saint Vincent held the advantage on the ground, 170-149. Grove City also led in time of possession and first downs (28-16).
