DEFIANCE, Ohio (Sept. 6) - Despite holding a halftime lead, the Saint Vincent men's soccer team lost 2-1 in a road contest at Defiance College.
Saint Vincent gained its first lead of the season when
Kevin Proctor scored for a second straight game. The Proctor goal came in the 34th minute and SVC was able to hold a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Defiance evened the score in the 53rd minute when Nick Kleptz found the back of the net. The host Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 lead when Kleptz scored in the 58th minute for his second goal of the match.
SVC never scored again and Defiance held on to hand the Bearcats their second one goal loss in three games.
The Yellow Jackets held a 25-13 edge in shots, including a 12-6 margin on net. Defiance put together a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Proctor led the offense with the only goal of the match for SVC while racking up four shots on the afternoon. Senior goalkeeper
Jon White tallied 9 saves.
With the loss, Saint Vincent drops to 0-3 after the opening week of play. The Bearcats return to action when they travel to John Carroll University on Sept. 9. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
