PHOTO GALLERYLATROBE, Pa. (March 9) - Ten different Bearcats scored a goal as the Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team got off to a fast start and defeated Concordia Chicago 24-1 at the SVC Turf.
SVC built an early lead, holding a 5-0 lead after the first quarter.
Hunter Sharp scored the opening goal of the contest, before
Jeremy Kennedy chipped in the next two.
Anthony Hogeback and
Alex Mueser rounded out the scoring in the first with a goal each.
The Bearcats continued to roll in the second quarter, scoring the next nine goals to take a 14-0 edge with 1:31 to play in the opening half. Concordia finally got on the board late in the half with 14 seconds remaining, making it 14-1 at halftime. Mueser added two more scores in the second quarter, while Hogeback added another goal and five assists in the period.
Hogeback paced the offense in the first half with two goals and seven assists over the first 30 minutes. Kennedy and Mueser each registered three goals in the first half.
Saint Vincent continued to control play, scoring five goals each in the third and fourth quarters, while holding the Cougars off the scoreboard. SVC held a 65-12 advantage in shots in the contest, including a 47-5 edge on goal. SVC forced Concordia into 46 turnovers while committing 21. SVC picked up 74 ground balls and held a 20-9 edge in face-offs.
Individually, Hogeback had a career-day, totaling two goals and nine assists for 11 total points. Kennedy and Mueser each recorded five goals for SVC.
Tim Oxenreiter tallied four points as well in the win.
Brendon Masten scored three goals while
Charlie Russo and
Ryan Filyo each chipped in two.
Saint Vincent improves to 1-1 on the season. The Bearcats travel to Hood College on Saturday, March 12. Start time in Maryland is set for 3:30 p.m.
