Oxenreiter, Hogeback eclipse milestones in win at Defiance


DEFIANCE, Ohio (April 23) - Senior Tim Oxenreiter scored four goals and dished out three assists to surpass 100 career points as the Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team defeated Defiance College 17-1 in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action.

With six assists on the afternoon, sophomore Anthony Hogeback established a new school record for assists in a season. Hogeback surpassed the previous single-season high of 34, which was held by both Luke Repka (2001) and Will DeLanoy (2011). 

The Bearcats earned a wire-to-wire victory, holding a 5-0 lead after one quarter and led 8-0 at halftime. SVC was up 10-1 after three quarters before using a 7-0 run over the final 15 minutes for the 17-1 win. 

Jeremy Kennedy recorded a match-high five goals for SVC. Oxenreiter led the way in points with seven. Alex Mueser chipped in three goals, while Brendan Masten scored two goals. Senior Charlie Russo and Hunter Sharp each tallied a goal as well for the Bearcats. Kennedy picked up six ground balls, while Jon Souders forced three turnovers. 

Senior Greg Gonzalez got the win in goal, working the first half and making two saves while not allowing a goal. Sophomore Connor McMillen played the second half in net, allowing one goal. 

SVC held a 69-15 advantage in shots, including a 41-3 edge on goal. Defiance committed 28 turnovers in the loss. SVC won 17 of the 21 face-offs in the contest. 

With the win, the Bearcats improved to 6-7 overall and 3-3 in the ORLC. 

Saint Vincent concludes the 2016 season with a home game against Hanover on Saturday, April 30. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m. The contest is scheduled to be played at Chuck Noll Field and will serve as Senior Day for the Bearcats.
