COLUMBUS, Ohio (March 25) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team earned its first victory of the season by downing Wabash College 10-6 at Worthington Kilbourne High School in Ohio.
After both teams went scoreless in the first quarter, SVC outscored Wabash 3-2 in the second to take a lead into the halftime break. Freshman
Frank Casile tallied two goals in the first half sandwiched around a score by
Jeremy Kennedy, off an assist from
Keith Findle.
The Bearcats seized control of the match with a strong third quarter, in which they outscored the Little Giants by a 4-1 margin to strengthen the lead to 7-3.
Alex Mueser,
Mitchell Bachman and
Hunter Sharp scored consecutively during the run. Casile added a man-up score from Kennedy late in the quarter.
Two early scores in the fourth gave the Bearcats a commanding 9-3 advantage.
Ben Price scored unassisted before Casile added another score, this time off a pass from
Anthony Hogeback. Wabash would outscore SVC by a 3-1 total over the final 12:20 but could not get closer.
Casile paced the Bearcats with a game-high four goals, while the freshman also added six ground ball pickups.
John Wohlin had another solid game on the face-off, winning 8-of-10 and tallying seven ground balls.
Connor McMillen earned the win in goal, making eight saves.
Saint Vincent held a 39-31 edge in shots, including a slight 19-18 advantage on goal. The Bearcats won 13 of the 20 face-offs.
The Bearcats (1-5) travel to Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday, March 29. Start time is slated for 7 p.m. under the lights.
