LATROBE, Pa. (April 29) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team pulled away in the second half, earning a 12-6 victory over Westminster College in Ohio River Conference action on Senior Day at Chuck Noll Field.

Both teams struggled to gain offensive traction in the opening quarter. Junior Anthony Hogeback scored the opening goal of the game, off a pass from freshman Frank Casile at the 11:51 mark. Both teams were kept off the board for the next eight minutes before the Titans would use a pair of scores to take a 2-1 lead after the first quarter of play.

The visiting Titans would score again to make it 3-1 early in the second. However, SVC would get a goal each from Casile and Hunter Sharp to tie the game at 3-3 with 4:30 left in the first half.

After a Titans goal helped them regain the lead, Alex Mueser tallied an unassisted goal to bring the halftime score to 4-4. Halftime lasted nearly an hour as a passing thunderstorm caused a weather delay.

Westminster would waste little time regaining the lead, scoring less than a minute into the third quarter, to take a 5-4 edge. However, the Bearcats would respond back with the final three goals of the quarter, to take a 7-5 lead over the Titans. Casile scored a man-up goal at the 9:57 mark before Ben Price and Jeremy Kennedy added a goal each over the next four minutes. Joe Puvel assisted both the Price and Kennedy scores.

Freshman goalkeeper Brandon Martin made a critical save in the waning moments of the third to help SVC carry the momentum and multi-goal lead into the 4th Quarter.

Casile, Price, Zach Novelli, Hogeback and Kennedy each scored in the fourth as SVC outscored the Titans 5-1 in the final frame.

Casile led the way with five points, while Kennedy tacked on four points. Price and Hogeback added three points each.

Martin earned his first collegiate victory in net, making five saves during the second half of play.

Saint Vincent finishes the regular season at 6-1 in ORLC play and 8-7 overall. Meanwhile, Westminster finishes the season at 3-4 in league play and 7-7 overall.

The Bearcats have secured the #2 seed in the upcoming ORLC Tournament and will host #3 seed Thiel College on Wednesday, May 3 at Chuck Noll Field. The time of the game will be announced by the conference office later this weekend.
