The SVC football team lost to a tough squad from Case Western Reserve University on the road in Cleveland by a score of 37-7.
Â
Both teams traded punts on the opening two possessions, before the Bearcats moved the ball into Case territory on their second drive of the game.  A completion from
Zavion Thompson to
Ariel Martinez moved the ball to the Case 23, but a fumble on first down ended the drive.
The defense answered right back, as freshman
George Hillen forced a fumble by the Spartans at the Bearcat 25, that was recovered by
Ben Davis at the 17. Â
After a Saint Vincent punt, Case (5-1, 4-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference) put together a five-play scoring drive that carried over into the second quarter, hitting a 23-yard field goal to go in front, 3-0.
Â
From there, the hosts took control of the game, as three straight Bearcat possessions ended in punts, while Case Western answered each time with a touchdown, taking a 24-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. Â
Â
The Spartans added a touchdown on the opening drive of the second half, taking a 30-0 lead before the extra point was blocked.  They added another score later in the third quarter, taking a 37-0 lead into the fourth.
Â
The lone Bearcat score of the day came in the fourth quarter, when
Tekoah Guedes connected on a 36-yard touchdown pass with freshman
Langston Hampton.  It was Hampton's first collegiate reception. Â
Â
For the Bearcats, Guedes was the team's leading rusher, with 33 yards on 10 carries.  Thompson was 12-for-21 through the air, for 125 yards. Guedes was 2-6 for 64 yards, while
Michael Navarro was 4-for-5 for 28 yards.Â
Â
Keith Kalp caught 5 passes for 44 yards, while
Philip Harding had three receptions for 41 yards.Â
Â
For Case, Drew Saxton was 22-32 passing for 348 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Ryan Coolidge was 6-8 for 67 yards.  Colt Morgan caught 15 passes for 281 yards.
Defensively,
Mike Turner Jr and
Caleb Collins each had 11 tackles. Â
Cameron Mack added six tackles and broke up four passes.Â
