The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team scored just over one minute into the game and never looked back, cruising to a 23-6 win over La Roche College to open the 2018 season.
Jeremy Kennedy took a pass from
Ben Price at the 13:57 mark and scored, setting the tone for the day. Â Price scored just over four minutes later at the 9:46 mark, then just 15 seconds later, it was Kennedy scoring his second goal of the game, off an assist from
Anthony Hogeback, putting the visiting Bearcats in front, 3-0.
After a Redhawk goal,
Hunter Sharp, Kennedy, and Hogeback all added first quarter goals, giving SVC a 6-1 advantage after one quarter.
Stone Haberstroh,
Colton Scott and
Alex Mueser all found the net in the second, joining Kennedy and Sharp, giving the Bearcats an 11-3 lead at the halftime break.
Just past the midway point of the third quarter, the lead had grown to 14 thanks to six unanswered goals, including three from Hogeback, making it 17-3, and the Bearcats were in front 19-4 by the end of the quarter, going on to win by 17.
Kennedy and Hogeback each had a 7-point day, as each tallied five goals and two assists.  Haberstroh scored six points (3-3), while
Zach Novelli had a four-point day with a goal and three assists. Â Sharp scored three times, while Price had a goal and two assists.
With his sixth point of the day, Kennedy, a junior, reached the 100-point plateau in his Bearcat career.
Kevin Tregoning made the start in the net, and made five saves on the day, playing the entire 60 minutes to earn the victory.
For the Redhawks (0-1), Bradley LaBovik led the offense with four points on three goals and an assist.
The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday (February 24), as SVC hosts the University of Mount Union at 1PM on the SVC Turf.
