Game Recap: Softball |

SVC sweeps Juniata on the road

The SVC softball team was dominant in a doubleheader sweep of Juniata College on the road in non-conference action.  Final scores were 9-1 and 10-1.

The Bearcats wasted no time getting on the board in game one.  Kelly Flaherty led off by drawing a walk, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Courtney Patterson.  Shelby Noel then hit a two-run home run, which would prove to be the eventual game-winner.  Lauren Miller walked, and Alona Sleith followed with her fifth home run of the year, making it 4-0.

With two outs, Victoria Culver then hit the team's third home run of the first inning, giving the Bearcats a 5-0 lead.  Juniata scored once in the bottom of the first, their only run of the game.

The Bearcats later added three runs in the fifth, on a pair of walks, a double by Sleith, and a single by Emily Duerr.  Another double by Sleith in the 6th inning gave her 4 RBI for the game, and the team a 9-1 win.

Sleith also went the distance in the circle for the victory, giving up just four hits, walking none and striking out two.

Game two was scoreless through three innings, but Patterson walked with one out in the 4th, and Noel followed with her second home run of the day.  Later in the inning, Erica Smiley singled home Miller, who had singled, putting SVC in front 3-0.

In the 5th, Patterson singled and later scored on a hit by Miller, making it 4-0.  The Bearcats added six runs in the top of the 7th inning, taking advantage of four Juniata errors.

Riley Assalone threw the complete game for the Bearcats, giving up 9 hits, walking one and striking out two.

The Bearcats are now 7-3 on the season and will be back in action on Monday (March 19) in a twinbill against Penn State-Altoona on the road.
