Balanced attack guides SVC past Thomas More, 20-3

LATROBE, Pa. (March 25) - Eight different Bearcat players scored as the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team rolled past Thomas More by a 20-3 score in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action. 

Junior Naomi Schwaiger and junior Courtney Kloos accounted for the first three SVC goals before Thomas More scored to get on the board with 25:34 to play in the first half. Saint Vincent then took control with an 11-0 run to close the half with a 14-1 advantage. Schwaiger scored three goals, while senior Maggie Nelson, sophomore Rachel Belles and junior Julianne Rosa each tallied two scores during the run. Junior Alex Piampiano registered her first career goal during the offensive charge. 

The Bearcats outscored the Saints by a 6-2 margin in the second half of play, as Nelson led the way with four scores after the break. Calsey Holshue and LingEr Williams also scored for SVC in the second half. 

For the game, Nelson finished with a game-best six goals while adding two assists. Kloos used a strong effort to finish with six points, as the Latrobe, Pa. native had four goals and two assists to aid the offense. Schwaiger tallied four goals while Belles added a career-best three-goal performance. 

Holshue finished with a team-best four ground balls, while Belles tallied a game-high six draw controls. Jess Rudolph picked u three ground balls while Maria Franey contributed four saves in the victory. Saint Vincent was dominant on the stat page, outshooting the Saints by a 37-8 margin, which included a 29-7 advantage in shots on goal. SVC held a 17-8 edge in draw controls over TMC. 

The victory was the fourth straight overall for Saint Vincent, who improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in ORLC play. Meanwhile, the Saints fell to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in league play. 

Saint Vincent travels to rival Washington and Jefferson for an ORLC matchup with the Presidents on Wednesday, March 28. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
