GROVE CITY, Pa. (April 14) - The Saint Vincent softball team earned a road sweep over Grove City in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Bearcats claimed a 7-4 win in game one before holding on for a 3-2 victory in game two.
The Saint Vincent freshmen class played a large role in the sweep of the Wolverines, as a pair of first year players claimed pitching wins in the circle and two home runs by freshmen paced the offense.

A three-run home run by
Alona Sleith gave SVC a 4-1 lead after three innings. Run scoring hits by
Erica Smiley,
Kelly Flaherty and
Shelby Noel strengthened the advantage to 7-1 in the sixth inning. The host Wolverines tallied three runs in the bottom of the seventh to cap the scoring.
Noel continued her hot streak at the plate, going 3-for-4 with another double in the opener.
Lauren Miller and Sleith contributed two hits each to bolster the offense.
Riley Assalone improved to 7-1 in her rookie season, tossing seven strong innings. The freshman allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits. Assalone struck out three and walked three.
Game 2 Recap - Saint Vincent 3, Grove City 2
Miller provided all of the offense that Saint Vincent would need in game two, launching her first career home run, a three-run shot in the top of the first inning.
Grove City scored a run in the fourth and added another in the bottom of the seventh. However, Sleith closed the door to move to 4-2 on the season in the circle.
Sleith tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on nine hits in game two. Sleith walked one and struck out one in the victory.
The sweep moves Saint Vincent to 16-6 overall and 7-3 in PAC play. Saint Vincent hosts Thiel College on Wednesday, April 18. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m.
