Maggie Nelson recorded her 100th goal of the season and
Rachel Belles set a new season record for draw controls as the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team downed Franciscan University by a 17-12 score in non-conference play.
Nelson scored double digit goals for a fifth straight game. The Jefferson, Md. native became only the 10th player in Division III history to reach the 100 goal mark in a season.
Franciscan opened the game with the initial goal of the contest. However, SVC quickly countered back, using an 8-1 run to gain control. Belles was a large part of the Bearcats' early game success. The sophomore was key on the draw control and tallied three goals over the opening 15 minutes of play to give SVC a 5-2 lead.

Calsey Holshue and Nelson would rattle off the next three goals to make the score 8-2 with 7:23 left in the first half.
After FUS stopped the run with a score, Nelson recorded the final three goals of the half for Saint Vincent, helping push the Saint Vincent lead to 11-5 after 30 minutes. Nelson picked up where she left off at the end of the first half, opening the second with three straight goals to strengthen the advantage to 14-5 with 24:02 remaining.
Later in the second half, Nelson added two more goals to reach the century mark for the season, extending the score to 16-7 with 17:37 left. Franciscan would outscore SVC by a 5-1 margin to close the game.
Nelson added three ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls. Schwaiger recorded a four-point (1g, 3a) effort, while Belles tallied three goals, 12 draw controls and two caused turnovers.
LingEr Williams added four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the midfield. Holshue registered a team-high four caused turnovers.
Maria Franey picked up the victory in net, tallying nine saves over 60 minutes.
Also in the victory, Piampiano reached the 100 ground ball mark for her career.
The win was the fifth straight for Saint Vincent, who improves to 9-2 for the season. Franciscan drops to 5-4 overall.
Saint Vincent travels to Thiel College for an ORLC matchup with the Tomcats on Wednesday, April 18. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
