LATROBE, Pa. (April 22) - Saint Vincent freshman Alona Sleith pitched the Bearcats to a 6-1 win in game one before launching two home runs in a 10-3 game two victory, helping Saint Vincent sweep Thiel College in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.

With the two home runs in the nightcap, Sleith establishes a new single-season Saint Vincent home run record with 10.

The sweep extends the Bearcats' winning streak to six games. SVC improves to 20-6 overall and 11-3 in PAC play. This marks the fourth time in the past five seasons that Saint Vincent has claimed at least 20 wins.

Saint Vincent played a solid all-around game to pick up the victory in the opener. The Bearcats struck for three runs in the bottom of the second inning. SVC scored the initial run of the contest when Shae Robson double to drive in Emily Duerr. After Morgan Rittenhouse came home to score on a wild pitch, Victoria Culver tacked on an RBI single to plate Robson.

The Tomcats would get one back in the top of the third inning. However, Sleith was able to escape further damage, working around trouble to leave the bases loaded.

Robson helped SVC add two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The freshman outfielder singled to start the Bearcat rally. Shelby Noel would come through in the clutch, delivering a two-run single with two outs to extend the lead to 5-1. In the fifth, Robson scored Sleith on a sacrifice to make the score 6-1.

That was more than enough for Sleith, who allowed just one run over seven innings to improve to 5-2 in the circle this season. Flaherty, Robson and Rittenhouse all recorded two hits in game one.

After the Tomcats plated a run in the top of the first to take an early lead in game two, Saint Vincent responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame. The Bearcats loaded the bases with no outs. The Tomcats retired the next two hitters and appeared to be on the verge of escaping without harm. However, Duerr drove the first pitch of her at bat to right field for a two-run single to score Flaherty and Culver. Courtney Patterson singled home Noel to make it 3-1 SVC after one.

Sleith extended the lead to 7-1 after a pair of two run home runs in back-to-back at-bats, with the first in the third inning and the other in the fifth inning. The Tomcats pushed a pair of runs across in the sixth to make it 7-3. However, Saint Vincent put the game away with three more runs to extend the edge to 10-3 in the bottom of the inning. Flaherty and Lauren Miller produced run-scoring singles in the sixth.

Riley Assalone and Erica Smiley combined to hold the Thiel offense at bay, allowing only three runs and stranding 11 Tomcat runners on base.

Sleith and Flaherty led the Bearcat offense with three hits each in the game two victory. The Tomcats were led by AJ Corrardi, who combined to record five hits in the doubleheader.

Saint Vincent closes out its home schedule with a PAC doubleheader against Bethany College on Tuesday, April 24. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
