LATROBE, Pa. (April 7) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team earned a dominant 20-6 victory over visiting Mount St. Joseph in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action.
The Bearcats held a 3-0 lead after the first quarter before building a 7-1 edge at halftime. Saint Vincent continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring MSJ by a 13-5 margin over the final 30 minutes.
Saint Vincent was led by
Jeremy Kennedy, who recorded a team-high four goals.
Anthony Hogeback (1g, 4a) recorded five points while
Ben Price added four (2g, 2a).
Jon Succop and
Alex Mueser both tallied hat tricks, scoring three goals apiece.
Connor McMillen earned the victory in net, making three saves in 36:45 of action.
Michael Layton worked the final 23:15 in goal, stopping four shots.
John Wohlin won 8-of-10 face-offs and picked up a team-best seven ground balls.
Joe Puvel was strong in the midfield with six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Saint Vincent held several statistical advantages over the visiting Lions. Saint Vincent out-shot MSJ by a 55-19 margin, including a 37-13 edge in shots on goal. The Bearcats won 21 of the 30 face-offs while holding a 53-29 advantage in ground ball pickups.
The win was the fifth straight for Saint Vincent, who improves to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in ORLC play. Mount St. Joseph drops to 1-10 overall and 1-4 in league action.
Saint Vincent travels to Westminster College on Wednesday, April 11 for another conference clash. Start time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
