Kristin Marsh scored three goals to lead the Saint Vincent women's soccer team to a 4-2 victory over La Roche College at UPMC Field on the SVC campus.
The game was scoreless until the 20th minute, when
Caroline Snyder sent a pass into the box, and
Katie Ryan took a low shot that went past a diving goalkeeper, putting SVC in front, 1-0.
Just over three minutes later, Marsh took a through-ball, made a couple of moves to evade a defender and slip past the goalkeeper, and scored her second goal of the season to make it a 2-0 game in favor of the hosts.
With just over 30 minutes remaining in the second half, La Roche got on the board after a Saint Vincent handball in the box resulted in a penalty kick. La Roche's Samantha Chambers was successful on the attempt, making it 2-1.
Five minutes later, SVC retook a two-goal lead, as
Leah Memmo sent a corner kick into the box, and Marsh headed into the upper left corner of the net to give the Bearcats a 3-1 advantage.
With 17:38 remaining in the second half, Marsh tallied her third goal of the day, a blast from 25 yards out. It was the first "hat trick" by a Bearcat since
Maggie Nelson scored three goals in a 2015 game against Bethany College.
The Redhawks added a late goal, as Chambers scored her second of the day, but the Bearcats held on for a 4-2 victory.
Corinne Burk played the first half and earned the win in the net, posting four saves.
Abigail Johnson was in the net for the second half, also recording four saves.
With the win, Saint Vincent improves to 2-0 on the season, while La Roche falls to 1-2.
