The Saint Vincent women's soccer team lost its 2019 Presidents' Athletic Conference opener to Chatham University by a score of 1-0.
Just two minutes into play, a Bearcat foul gave Chatham the opportunity for a free kick from just over 45 yards out. Chatham's Kere O'Donnell came up from the backfield to take the kick, and blasted a lengthy shot that took one high hop and stayed just under the crossbar for a Cougar goal.
It would prove to be the only goal of the game.
On the day, SVC keeper
Abigail Johnson faced 27 shots, 16 of which were on goal, making 15 saves. In the second half, she saved a point-blank shot that kept the Bearcats in the game, but the offense was unable to generate much action against the Cougar defense.
With the loss, the Bearcats are now 0-9 on the season, 0-1 in the PAC. Chatham improves to 4-3-3, 1-0-1 in the conference.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, October 9, traveling to Washington for a matchup against W&J on Wednesday, October 9.
