Men's tennis team opens Spring Break trip with victory

The Saint Vincent men's tennis team started its 2019 Spring Break trip with a 5-4 win over Waynesburg University in a non-conference match held in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

The Yellow Jackets raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Sophomore Drew Speraw, making his college debut, paired with Riley Maruca for the Bearcats' best effort in doubles, an 8-7(5) loss in the third spot.

Saint Vincent turned it on in singles play claiming the first four singles points, highlighted by 6-4, 6-2 win by Jon Oskin at first singles and Freshman Josh Boland claiming his first collegiate victory at sixth singles. Waynesburg struck back at third singles to tie the match up at 4-4 with second singles yet to finish. Freshman Mauricio Sanchez came through for the Bearcats with a hard fought 6-2, 6-4 win at first singles, also his first collegiate victory.

The win moves Saint Vincent to 1-1 on the year. The Bearcats will be back in action on Monday, March 4 at noon when they take on Penn State-Behrend to wrap up its spring break trip.
