The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse started its 2020 season on the road against Muskingum University. The Bearcats defeated the Muskies, 22-7.
Joey Smith opened the scoring just 1:18 into the first half while
Sammi Headley scored just over a minute later in a man-down situation.
Lucy Volna then scored a man-up goal to extend the lead to 3-0 for SVC.
Kaylee Bandow kept the scoring going for the Bearcats before Muskingum scored its first goal of the game with 17:14 to go in the first half.Â
After the Muskies goal, Saint Vincent outscored Muskingum 9-1 to hold a 13-2 lead at the half. In the second half, SVC kept a stronghold on the lead by scoring nine goals compared to five for Muskingum to win by the 15-goal margin.
Nine different Bearcats scored a goal including
Karah Thatcher, Claire Carter,
Rachel Belles,
Izzy Molinaro and
Emily Taylor. SVC outshot Muskingum 28-13 and the Bearcats were a perfect 13-13 on clears.
Georgie Volna picked up her first colligate win in net as she made six saves on the evening. Shelby O'Donnell also made six saves but picked up the loss for the Muskies.
Saint Vincent (1-0) will head south for training over spring break before traveling to Mount Aloysius on Thursday, March 12. Start time is 7 p.m.
