BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Oct. 16) - Host Geneva used an overtime goal to edge out the Bearcats 3-2 in a President's Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday evening.
After SVC's
Hannah Irvine scored a penalty kick goal to tie the game at 2-2 in the 77th minute, the Golden Tornadoes' Lilly Berryman brought the game to an end with her golden goal six minutes into the extra period.Â
The Bearcats got off to a favorable start in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead on a Geneva own goal just 2:45 into play.Â

It didn't take the Golden Tornadoes very long to answer back, as Geneva's Abby Shoaff found the back of the net at the 9:56 to tie the score up at 1-1.

Despite the strong offensive start for both teams, the rest of the first half was a scoreless battle of the defenses. There were only eight total shots in the first half, with Geneva holding a 5-3 advantage in shots over the game's opening 45 minutes.

The second half it started out just as the first half ended, as both defenses remained strong. Twenty minutes into the half, Geneva broke the tie on a a goal by katie Bodenmiller to make it 2-1.

After Geneva's second goal, Saint Vincent controlled the rest of the half. Ten minutes after the Golden Tornadoes goal, SVC was awarded a penalty following a foul in front of the goal, and Irvine buried it for her fourth goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2.Â
Both teams had chances over the final 15 minutes of play, but the match would remain tied at the end of regulation. Saint Vincent's strong play in the second half was reflected by its 9-1 advantage in shots.Â
The teams traded possession in the opening stages of the extra session, but just over midway into overtime, Berryman found the net to close out the 3-2 victory.
Saint Vincent (5-8, 2-4 PAC) out-shot Geneva (4-10, 3-3 PAC) 12-8 on the evening.
Tanisha Grewal led the Bearcats with five shots, while Irvine registered a pair of attempts.
Kendall Castor played all 105 minutes in goal for SVC, making four saves.Â

Saint Vincent is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 20, as they host Waynesburg in a PAC matchup scheduled for 1 p.m. at UPMC Field.
