After nearly four decades, a group of Saint Vincent men's bowlers took to the lanes as the new Bearcat club program squared off against regional powerhouse Robert Morris University at AMF Mount Lebanon Lanes in Pittsburgh.
Sophomore
Eddie Zuzak fired a strike on the first shot of his collegiate career - and the first ball thrown by a Bearcat men's bowler since the early 1980s - and the team was off and running. The upstart Bearcat team, consisting of six freshman and one sophomore, earned victories in three straight traditional games, and then split a series of six Baker games with the Colonials.
Zuzak's strike on the opening shot was the first of a five-bagger to start his game, and he led the team to a 992-960 victory with a 255 game.Â
Alex Colecchia finished with a 215, while
Michael Fekete shot a 203 in the anchor position. Â
In game two, it was again Zuzak leading the way with a 221, as SVC won 999-904. Colecchia was consistent, shooting a 216, while Fekete finished with a 195,
Anthony Strickland shot 191, and
Alex Vickers finished with a 176.
Both teams topped the 1000 mark in game three, with Saint Vincent earning a 1035-1004 victory. Fekete had the game high with a 245, while Colecchia ended with a 225. Zuzak (193), Strickland (189) and
Ethan Decker (183) rounded out the scoring.
Zuzak's 669 series (223 average) was tops on the team, followed by Colecchia (656, 218.6) and Fekete (643, 214.3).
The teams then switched to Baker team games, and the Bearcats and Colonials split a series of 6 games. The Bearcats put together team games of 201, 179, 205, 213, 201 and 171.Â
Garrett Contee led the team in Bakers with a per-frame average of 26.33, a game equivalent of 263.3. Decker finished at 22.33, while Fekete ended at 21.08. Zuzak finished at 19.83, followed by Strickland (19.09), Colecchia (18.33) and Vickers (15.67).
