The Saint Vincent College men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the Presidents' Athletic Conference season with the Saint Vincent College Invitational. The men's team finished first out of nine teams while the women finished fifth out of eight.
In the men's race, the Bearcats had four of the top six finishers including freshman
Tim Patterson leading the way. Patterson crossed the line second overall with a time of 16:17.80. Right behind him was fellow freshman
John Hurley, stopping the clock at 16:30.99.Â
Steve Patterson was the next SVC runner to cross the line in fifth overall (16:37.47) while teammate
Frankie King kept pace finishing the race in sixth (16:41.03).
Individually, the men's race was won by Franciscan's Liam Galligan with a time of 15:58.12. The Barons finished second overall followed by Washington & Jefferson, Geneva and Waynesburg to round out the top five.
For the women,
Laura Aston gave pace for Saint Vincent with a time of 20:17.77, good enough for third overall.
Lauren Brennan was the next Bearcat to cross the line in 17th with a time of 21:52.18.
Alissa Beam (27th) and
Jessica Gibson (38th) were the next pair of SVC runners to stop the clock with times of 22:52.09 and 24:06.55, respectively.
Franciscan's Alison Bryant to home individual honors with a first-place finish of 18:42.87. Geneva led all the teams then Franciscan, Waynesburg, Westminster and Saint Vincent for the top five.
Both Saint Vincent squads return to the course on Saturday, March 6 for the Bethany College Invitational in Bethany, West Virginia.
