The Saint Vincent College women's soccer team opened its season on the road at Chatham University in Presidents' Athletic Conference action. The Bearcats fell to the Cougars, 4-0.
Chatham (1-0) opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game with a goal from Cassidy Martin. The Cougars had another chance with a penalty kick at the 21:36 mark but
Abigail Johnson stopped the chance and kept the Bearcats (0-1) deficit at one. The score remained the same until 26 seconds to go when Morgan Anderson scored to give Chatham a 2-0 edge going to halftime.
In the second half, the Cougars add to their lead at the 51:18 mark. SVC tried to battle back but another goal from Chatham gave it a four-goal edge. With one second remaining in the game, the Cougars had another penalty kick opportunity but Johnson stood tall in the net and fought off the attempt.
Johnson made 22 saves in the effort for the Bearcats.
Saint Vincent will host Washington and Jefferson on Sunday, March 21. Start time is 3 p.m.
