The Saint Vincent men's bowling team hosted Robert Morris University in a head-to-head match at Lincoln Lanes in Latrobe. The Colonials took two of three from the Bearcats in traditional play, while the teams split a series of six Baker team games.
In the first traditional game, SVC struggled from the outset and never recovered, as the visitors went on to a 1012-854 victory.
Anthony Strickland led the Bearcats with a 206 game, while
Eddie Zuzak shot a 192.
The Bearcats bounced back in game two, earning a 949-913 victory. Zuzak started the game with four straight strikes, then after a spare in the fifth, struck in frames 6-9. A split in the 10th left him with a 240, still the highest of the day for the team. Strickland finished with a 201.
In the third game, freshman anchor
Michael Fekete shot a 205, while Zuzak finished at 202, but it wasn't enough as SVC fell by a score of 944-918.
The match then switched to Baker team games, and RMU got off to a quick start, winning game one by a 257-142 score. SVC came back to win the second, 198-192. In game three, the Bearcats shot a respectable 189, but the Colonials fell one pin shy of a perfect game, leaving a 5-pin on the final shot for a 299. The next two games belonged to SVC, by scores of 205-187 and 211-195, before Robert Morris came back to win the sixth and final game, 192-172.
Zuzak led the way throughout the day for the Bearcats, shooting a 634 series (211.3 average) in traditional play, then averaging 23.72 per frame, a game equivalent of 237.2, in Baker play. Strickland shot an even 600 in traditional games, for a 200 average.
Fekete averaged 20.41 in Bakers, while
Alex Vickers finished at 19.1 per frame.
Alex Colecchia averaged 17.20 in Baker play, while
Garrett Contee finished at 16.77.
