Softball earns split at Geneva

The Saint Vincent College softball faced Geneva College for a road Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Bearcats split with the Golden Tornadoes, winning game one, 5-4, before falling in game two, 8-7.

Game 1 - Saint Vincent 5, Geneva 4

Saint Vincent used batting first to its advantage as Mallory Halleck singled to center as Shae Robson scored from second. The Bearcats led 1-0 going to the bottom of the first.

After Geneva left the bases loaded in the first, SVC looked to add to its lead. Kaylee Ludwick led off the second with a double down the left field line. After a sacrifice bunt, Ludwick scored has Johnna Karas drove a ball to center field. The Bearcats now held a 2-0 edge.

The score remained this way until the top of the fifth when Halleck drove in her second run of the game with a double to score Robson.

The Golden Tornadoes got on the board, scoring two runs on three hits to pull within one (3-2). Geneva later took the lead in the bottom of the sixth as it scored two more runs to lead 4-3.

Saint Vincent looked to regain the lead in the top of the seventh as the bases were loaded with two outs. Kelsey Tobin drove a single right up the middle to as Robson and Hanna Pavsek crossed home plate give SVC a 5-4 lead.

Haley Bicko then sat the Golden Tornadoes down in order to secure the one-run (5-4) win.

Robson, Halleck, Ludwick and Pavsek all finished with two hits while Halleck and Tobin drove in two runs. Bicko threw all seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out three.

Game 2 - Geneva 8, Saint Vincent 7

Just like in game one, the Bearcats opened the scoring as Abbey Ginter doubled to left to drive in Robson. Later in the inning, Ludwick singled as Halleck and Ginter scored to give SVC a 3-0 lead.

Geneva responded quickly with two runs in the bottom half of the inning as it scored two runs on three hits.

A scoreless second inning for both squads gave the Bearcats a chance to add their 3-2 lead in the top of the third.

Ludwick drove in Ginter once again to make the score 4-2. Olivia Persin followed as she grounded out but Halleck scored to extend the SVC lead. Tobin then scored in the next at-bat when Karas grounded out to the shortstop. Ludwick scored the final run of the inning when Pavsek was caught in a run down as Saint Vincent led 7-2.
