WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 30) – The Saint Vincent men's tennis team saw its historic 2021-22 season come to an end with a 5-1 defeat to Grove City College in the championship match of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.
The Bearcats close the 2021-22 campaign with a 15-6 overall record. The 15 wins are the most in program history, while it also marked the Bearcats' first ever appearance in the PAC finals.
Saint Vincent fell behind 3-0 after doubles play, but all three matches were tightly contested. The #1 pairing of
Josh Boland and
David Lynn and the #2 tandem of
Matthew Sadusky and John Oskin were each defeated 8-6, while
Mauricio Sanchez and
Aaron Kuhn fell 8-4 in the #3 doubles position.
Sanchez got the Bearcats on the board with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the #4 singles spot, but the Wolverines clinched the match with wins at #1 singles and #6 singles.
Following the match, Sanchez and
Jack Citrone were each named to the PAC All-Tournament Team.
The Bearcats saw two players reach double-figure victories on the season in singles play, as Citrone finished 15-3 on the season and Sanchez 14-4. Sanchez and Kuhn also earned 10 doubles wins during the 2021-22 campaign.
