Women's lacrosse rides balanced offense, stout defense to PAC win

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April. 4) –  Led by eight points from Joey Smith and three goals from three different players, the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Waynesburg on the road, 19-2.

A total of 11 different Bearcats (5-6, 1-2 PAC) scored at least one goal, while SVC out-shot the Yellow Jackets (0-6, 0-3 PAC) 44-14 and forced 31 Waynesburg turnovers on the evening.

The Bearcats wasted little time in finding the net, as Maggie Edwards scored the game's first goal two minutes into the first quarter. Smith then got in on the act just minutes later to make it 2-0, before Edwards, Bridget Doyle (2), Caroline Mullineaux, Emily Taylor and Smith added goals in the first period to take a commanding 8-0 lead into the second frame.

Taylor added another goal in the second quarter, while Doyle, Gabby Salandro, Kaylee Bandow and Smith each scored once, to give SVC a 13-1 halftime lead. The Bearcats went on to score two goals in the third quarter, with one from Hannah Marie-Starner and one Jessica Persin. Four more Bearcat goals in the fourth quarter, including the first career tally for Cara Luallen made the final score 19-2.

Doyle (3G, 2A) finished with five points, while Salandro (2G, 1A) and Edwards (3G) totaled three points on the evening.

Taylor led the Bearcats with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. In all, 14 different players collected at least one ground ball for SVC. Kyra Lipetzky stopped eight of 10 shots in goal to earn the win.

Saint Vincent will now have back-to-back home contests against Muskingum (April 6) and Westminster (April 9), both set for 4 pm.
