LATROBE, Pa. (April 9) – The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team braved the elements on a wintry day at UPMC Field to defeat visiting Bethany College 17-3 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup.
Nine different players scored at least one goal for SVC (7-1, 1-1 PAC), as the Bearcats outshot the Bison (5-4, 0-2 PAC) by a 62-13 margin to bounce back from their first defeat of the season.
Jordan Billet totaled six points to lead the Bearcats, on three goals and three assists, while
Jacob Visalli recorded five points (3G, 2A) in his return to the lineup from injury.
Caleb Hawkins scored three goals,
Justin Wodarek two goals and two assists and
Tyler Condrasky two goals, while
Brady Beard,
Carter Haid,
Tommy McLaughlin and
Max Schuler all scored one goal apiece.
Beard and
Colin Cooper led the Bearcats with four ground balls, while Wodarek, Condrasky,
Matthew Cassidy and
Bernard Farnan collected three apiece. Hawkins and Cassidy each recorded two caused turnovers.
The Bearcats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead just six minutes into play on goals by Condrasky, Wodarek and Beard. Hawkins and Billet scored over the final two minutes of the quarter to up the lead to 5-0, before the Bearcats scored four goals in the first four minutes of the second quarter to push the lead to 9-0.
The lead would eventually reach 13-2 at the break after the Bearcats outscored the Bison 8-2 in the second frame. Billet, Hawkins and Visalli each scored twice in the quarter, while Condrasky and Schuler each scored once.
Visalli scored the only goal in the third quarter, before Wodarek, McLaughlin and Haid closed out the SVC scoring in the fourth.
Aarin Burton, Clay Yingling and Nick Helias had the three Bison goals, while Burton added an assist to finish with a two-point day. Bethany goalie Andrew Smith made 19 saves.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Wednesday, April 13, when they welcome Westminster College to UPMC Field for a 4 p.m. face off.
