WASHINGTON, Pa. (May 4) – The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team saw its 2022 season come to an end with an 18-6 defeat to top-seeded Washington & Jefferson in the semifinals of the PAC Championship Tournament.
W&J took control early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter and a 9-0 advantage midway through the second frame.
Kaylee Bandow got the Bearcats on the board with 7:34 left in the half, off of an assist from Doyle, but the Presidents scored the final two goals of the half to take an 11-1 lead into the intermission.
The teams would trade goals throughout the second half, as W&J was able to maintain its double-digit lead over the final two quarters. Doyle,
Rachel Thatcher and Edwards each scored third quarter goals for SVC, with
Joey Smith and Edwards adding goals in the final frame.
Kyra Lipetzky played all 60 minutes in goal and made 10 saves for the Bearcats. Thatcher and
Sammi Headley each finished the night with two caused turnovers, while
Kaylee Bandow and
Hannah-Marie Starner each collected two ground balls. Bandow finished with a team-best six draw controls and Starner four.
With her fourth quarter goal, Smith closes the 2022 season with 53 goals, 60 assists and 113 points, and ends her career with 227points. The 113 points are the fourth most in a single season for a player in program history, while her 226 points rank third all-time on the career list.
Starner ended the year with a single-season team record 131 draw controls.
The Bearcats, who entered the tourney as the No. 4 seed, close the season with a 10-7 overall record, while the top-seeded Presidents move on to the PAC title game with an 11-4 mark.
