Rahaman's Game Winner pushes SVC past Pitt-Greensburg, 2-1

GREENSBURG, Pa (Sept. 18)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team defeated Pitt-Greensburg 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. David Rahaman scored the game-winning goal with just under 10-minutes to go in the match, propelling the Bearcats to the 2-1 win.

Pitt-Greensburg scored the first goal of the afternoon, finding the back of the net with a little over 13-minutes to go in the first half. Zander Plizga scored, with an assist from Ross Hartley, giving UPG a 1-0 lead.

The next 14 minutes of the game were fairly even, until Saint Vincent evened up the score at the 27-minute mark of the first half. Eduardo Richa tied it up for SVC, and that would remain the score heading into the halftime break.

Both the Bearcats and the Bobcats had six shots in the first half. UPG made four saves in the half and Saint Vincent made one. The Bearcats also had seven fouls in the first half, compared to just one for Pitt-Greensburg.

In the second half, it was defensive game. Neither team was able to capitalize on opportunities, as the game looked destined for a draw, but SVC had other things in mind.

That's when Rahaman scored the game winner with 9:55 to go in the game. Rahaman's goal was assisted by Joel Quiroz Mansilla.

The win for the Bearcats is their third in a row. SVC outshot the Bobcats 12-8 in the match, outshooting them 6-3 in the second half. After picking up seven fouls in the first half, Saint Vincent had just two fouls in the second half, compared to UPG's eight, evening up the fouls at 9-9 overall.

Along with his assist Mansilla added two shots on goal in the win for SVC. Rahaman had three shots on goal and Richa added two, to go along with his goal. Kameron Rock picked up the win in net for the Bearcats, making two saves, while also allowing the lone Bobcats goal.

Saint Vincent will return to action on Wednesday, September 21, when they hit the road for their first President's Athletic Conference matchup of the season, to take on Westminster. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. in New Wilmington, Pa.
