Men's tennis comes from behind to defeat Franciscan for big conference win

LATROBE, Pa. (Apr. 19)- The Saint Vincent men's tennis team defeated Franciscan 5-4 at the SVC courts to secure a huge conference win for the Bearcats.

Saint Vincent (8-6, 5-2 PAC) came from behind against Franciscan (6-10, 5-2 PAC), trailing 2-1 after double play and then trailed 4-3 in singles play before coming back to win the final two singles play matches to secure the one point win.
 
Franciscan took the early lead over the Bearcats with wins in number one and number two doubles. Brian Lee and Kyle Murray secured a big point for SVC with an 8-2 win in number three doubles to cut the Barons lead to one (2-1).
 
The Bearcats fell in the first two finishes in number singles as well, losing in number one and number two singles as Franciscan led 4-1. Evan Ray picked up a big win in number four singles, with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Benjamin Sabol of Franciscan to cut the score to 4-2.
 
Jack Citrone picked up a key victory for SVC to keep them alive in the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Samuel Sabol to cut the Barons lead to 4-3 with two matches to play.
 
David Lynn tied the match up in number five singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Callahan Hecton as the match was tied 4-4.
 
Murray won the match for SVC with a 7-6(6-2), 6-4 win that came down to the wire. Sam Butler fell in a tough match in number two singles, by scores of 1-6, 1-6.
 
The win for Saint Vincent is their second win in a row and third in their last four matches. The Bearcats conclude their regular season schedule with a trip to Geneva on Friday, April 21, taking on the Golden Tornadoes in another PAC matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on in Beaver Falls.
