Bearcats win big in first PAC win of the season

LATROBE, Pa. (Apr. 5)- The Saint Vincent College women's lacrosse team defeated Waynesburg 23-5 in a big day on offense for their first PAC win of the year.
 
Eleven different Saint Vincent (6-4, 1-2) players scored goals in the win. The Bearcats offense led 13-1 at the half and followed that up, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 10-4 in the second half in route to their first conference win of 2023.
 
The Bearcats were led by Bridget Doyle with ten points, scoring three goals while dishing out four helpers. Carolina Walters added five points for Saint Vincent, scoring two goals with three assists.
 
Maggie Edwards (3 goals, 1 assist), Caroline Mullineaux (3 goals, 1 assist), Melanie Seefeldt (3 goals, 1 assist) all added four points for the Bearcats in the win. Rachel Thatcher (3 assists) and Georgie Volna (3 goals) both recorded three points for Saint Vincent.
 
Kaylee Bandow (2 goals) and Gabby Salandro (1 goal, 1 assist) both added two points in the win as well. Hannah-Marie Starner and Jessica Persin both scored goals as well. Bailey Nicely picked up the win in net playing all 60-minutes, making five saves against the Yellow Jackets.
 
The Bearcats outshot the Yellow Jackets 40-13 on the afternoon, including 13-1 in the first quarter and 14-4 in the second quarter.
 
Thatcher recorded a game-high four ground balls and four caused turnovers for the Bearcats on defense. Saint Vincent also scooped up 21 ground balls compared to just ten ground balls from Waynesburg.
 
The Bearcats forced 21 Waynesburg turnover and had just nine on their offensive side. Saint Vincent held Waynesburg to just 4-17 on clears and were a strong 14-16 on their end.
 
The win for the Bearcats is their second of the year against Waynesburg, with the first coming in non-conference play two weeks ago.
 
The Bearcats will be back in action on Tuesday, April 11 when they travel to New Wilmington, Pa. for a PAC matchup against Westminster. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
